Did you know that a piece of dark chocolate in the evening can give you better sleep?

Dark chocolate, or more precisely, dark chocolate, with a cocoa content of at least 60% or even better 70%, has so much magnesium in it that you can already cover half of your daily requirement with one bar of chocolate (100 g)! In principle, the more cocoa in the chocolate, the more magnesium it contains [1]. Magnesium relaxes your muscles and that is exactly what you need for a peaceful sleep. I find an ingenious solution for sleep disorders :-D

Okay, there are also other foods with high magnesium content than the daily bar of chocolate (bummer! :-). You can also include other high magnesium foods in your diet, such as chickpeas, quinoa, black beans, spinach, bananas, dates or raspberries, to name a few delicious possibilities.
How do you notice that you have too little magnesium? Signs for this are [2]:
you feel tired and exhausted in the afternoon
your facial muscles and lower back are tense
you have regular muscle twitching of the eyelids
your heart beats irregularly
you have muscle cramps in legs and feet, especially at night
If you regularly have complaints of this kind, it is very likely that you have too little magnesium in your body. Try to include more magnesium-containing foods in your diet. However, the best way to absorb magnesium is through foot baths. You can take a footbath with magnesium chloride (available at the pharmacy) - preferably before bedtime.
In this sense: Sweet dreams!
Yours, Dagmar
