Did you know that pistachios and cranberries can greatly improve your sleep?

Pistachios and cranberries have a high proportion of melatonin [1]. Therefore they are THE superfood for restful sleep. Already 10 pistachios or 20 cranberries before going to bed act like a high dose of melatonin.

Melatonin regulates our sleep rhythm. It is produced by the pineal gland in the brain, the retina of the eye and in the intestines. The older you get, the less melatonin your body produces. An older person has only about ¼ of melatonin concentration compared to a young person.

How do you notice that your melatonin level is too low? Signs for this are [2]:

  • you have difficulty falling asleep

  • while you are trying to fall asleep your mind is busy with anxious thoughts and worries

  • you wake up in the middle of the night and cannot fall asleep again

  • you do not feel rested when you get up

  • it is difficult for you to concentrate

  • you have the feeling of not being able to think properly (so-called "brain fog")

  • you can hardly tolerate jet lag

  • you have difficulty remembering things

  • your immune system is weakened

  • you look older than you are

Here the intake of melatonin through diet can help you. You do not necessarily have to take melatonin as a dietary supplement. In addition to pistachios and cranberries, there are several other foods that increase melatonin levels. Also try dried tomatoes, sour cherries, strawberries and walnuts.

Yours, Dagmar
